How much to dip this?

Post by Huttman » Thu Jun 30, 2011 3:57 pm

This is one of my Blasters, I plan on giving one to Dave Filoni of the animated series at comicon and was considering giving it to him gold dipped. Kind of like a gold record?

Dip it? Referring to a hot chrome plated dip? I take it this is an all metal piece? If plastic no way it will melt. Now a chrome plating a la carte Vac-u-metalization like Vac-Met because it is plastic a total guess here, but around $100. Hot dip metal a guess around $75. These are ball park guess since every chromer doesn't guess or estimate with out item in hand.

the handle and barrel are rotocasted using rigid urethane. part of the stalk under is alum bar, the front is rigid. I just thought it would be the same as what is done to armor

I am not sure how the chromers price things, but like my guess stated above I am thinking around $100 to chrome it. Tinting like gold is free. I would it no moving parts are going to be scraped up take it apart for the best coverage. Also time window is closing real fast. Your window to chrome is closing fast. It might even be to late if Comic Con in San Die ago next month.

You think there is a gold paint that would work well enough for such an application? I mean, i know it wouldnt be a mirror finish..just curious

The problem is if you do it yourself and you aren't an accomplished painted you might end up in more trouble than you bargained for. The finish might look great but the clear coat might thrash it.
Use a high gloss black paint the off the shelf gold chrome paint.
Test out similar materials 1st to test results then if you like it go for it.

Old topic, but some info that may help a member later.
Duplicolor Gold Metalizer!!! Just make sure to use the Metalizer primer as a basecoat first, as the blaster is plastic.
