Man Builds Backyard Colonial Viper
in Bid To Woo Tricia Helfer

Original Cylon designer Andy Probert (L), with Dale Long (R), backyard Viper builder.

It’s happened again. Another fan has gone off and done it. And rumor has it that he plans a mid summer fly over of Seattle in 2015!

Dale Long aka “Gold Cylon” of ByYourCommand.net, out of Sacramento, California has taken the plunge and is building a full scale, 1:1, studio replica of a Mk1 Colonial Viper from Battlestar Galactica in his backyard.

The two year project has an estimated expense of nearly 20,000 dollars and most of that is coming from donations and out of pocket.

The plan is to “fly” the Viper to conventions and Battlestar celebrations all over the globe.

“The winter months are tough on the build,” says Long, a longtime Battlestar costumer. “The chemicals wont take in this kind of cold.”

Long often dresses up as a Cylon centurion at conventions, and has built a full scale replica of a ‘daggit’ – the mechanical dog that followed Boxey around on the old show.

“We’re going to sell advertising on one side of the Viper -along the wings and nose.” Long says they are still working out the details with sponsors, and that work on the build is going better than planned;

I had a small prop party, and I had no idea one of the guys major in college was Auto Body Engineer Technician. He gave the build a once, twice three time over inspection. He asked who I worked for because we has impressed. I have never fixed a dent before let alone worked on anything this massive before. Anyway he said everything is dead on, from the laser level straight lines, and build thickness. I really liked that word of encouragement, and I told him what was next…”

The Viper is in its earliest stages, but already is shaping up to be a blast. Long is accepting donations for the build.

No word from Tricia as of yet.
